Student Services

_____ classrooms + _____ offices + _____ meeting rooms + storage room + kitchen + bathroom + shower + laundry room + ...?

Needs vs. wishes?

=====================

We already agree:

We need a central location because our students deal with every single department.
We need to be close to counsellors and administrators and, depending where Ab Ed needs to be, we'd love to be close to them, too!

We cannot interrupt a confidential meeting or a testing session to get into our offices.

We need lots of storage, and a space, either here or in the staff room, for staff lockers.

Our space needs to feel safe and comfortable to be a haven for the more vulnerable students.

  1. - 1 classroom, 2 conference rooms.

    - We actually need two areas, not too far from each other:
    a central location is preferable for "study + office + meeting" space, BUT the "classroom + kitchen + living" space should be a little farther from the centre, with direct outside access, so we can deal with difficult situations as discretely as possible—minimal disruptions are a must.

  2. I think that one of the most essential qualities Mount Baker lacks, is a cafeteria/lunch room.
    Its astonishing how much this subject is overlooked. It would be an incredible convenience to both staff and students and may or may not have multiple uses.

  3. Student Services needs to separate areas: (1) a "Learning Centre" in a central location for all...not just students with learning difficulties. Open for any students needed an alternate quiet space to work away while also being a place to access past exams for practice, study tips, etc. Make it similar to student service facilities available in a post-secondary setting (college and university) so it doesn't carry the stigma of accessing student services because of struggles;(2) a meeting/classroom areas where student services teachers and modified/lifeskills programming can take place.
