This, along with the binder in the staff room, is where you can contribute ideas to the new school's design.
Click on the appropriate links and type your heart away in the comment section! (Problem? see Fred S. or email him at sd5 and he’ll post your stuff. Nice, eh?)
If you have some interesting links of your own, by all means, share them with the rest of us!
why cant we just not allow smoking all together?
ReplyDeletealthough, i wouldn't care too much about the smokers if they didnt hang out by the doors i exit out of every day
the smell can ruin my day sometimes
If we had a decent small area, it would give them a spot of their own, keep them of the streets, possibly keep them out of trouble. and they would give the school more respect. trust me, i'm an ex-smoker.
ReplyDeleteMBSS needs a place for those people who choose to smoke; maybe it's not legal too smoke, but really, not only out of respect for the students and staff, but also for the entire community.
ReplyDeleteThe smoking area (though I wish we could ban smoking on school grounds entirely) needs to be somewhere away from the doors and pathways. Last year when I had to walk to class through the smoke and, being asthmatic, it made that semester rather difficult for me.
ReplyDeleteA safe and respectful smoking area if that is possible would keep the mess in one area and would allow non-smokers to breathe clean air. If students/staff choose to smoke then we need to be respectful of those choices. Nothing is accomplished through a process of "banning" especially if it is an addiction.
ReplyDeleteBeing a smoker, we don't smoke in front of the doors ON PURPOSE to ruin everyones day and make people breathe in the smoke. we know we're not doing anything healthy for ourselves and it's not like we're trying to make the air unhealthy for you. Give us a designated place to smoke (that isn't the middle of the road or half an inch off the side walk) We'd all respect that. Cigarette butts on the ground? EAsy solution ASHTRAYS!!!!! there is one..but its right by the door! where we aren't allowed to be! with our cigarettes?! what kind of logic is this?? We may be smokers but that doesn't make us major trouble makers. As i said, give us a designated area to smoke that's out of the way and I'm sure there will be zero problems in cooperation.
ReplyDeleteWhat about a courtyard type area with the hallways built around it? The only people entering would be smokers or people who hang out with smokers. They wouldn't be in front of any entrance or exit on the perimeter of the building so no one would have to walk past them smoking. If smoking ever became banned completely you would still have a very nice courtyard.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with a courtyard is that there may be windows near it, so we would have to breathe the second-hand smoke. If it is in a closed-in area, there is no air circulation, so all the smoke stays there and enters the building whenever a door is opened - unless you are suggesting smokers are lowered in from above?!
ReplyDeleteJust a reply to June 1 comment. The courtyard I am thinking of would have windows down two opposite sides which is also where the doors would be; the other two sides would be solid walls. The ceiling would be the sky or else it wouldn't be a courtyard it would just be a room. The smoke escapes into the air, the windows would not open and the smoke escaping thru the doorways would be very minimal. There would be plants/small trees, benches, garbage cans and of course ashtrays. If it was raining or snowing bring an umbrella.
ReplyDeleteIF YOU DONT SMOKE YOUR NOT COOOO
