  3. thats way to small! we need a big gym with space for our cheerleaders and lots of spectators. enough room for at least the hole school to sit on the bleachers compfortably. maybe even leveled bleachers would work so the band could play during half time! that would be really cool!

  4. Agreed with the last one we totally need space in there for events like basketball games.

  5. maybe they could have like a second gym to have more gym classes like dance, yoga/pilates, fun things. second also adds more time for teams to practice in the gym which makes better teams and more poeple to come out at games and better school sprits

  6. no windows or few as possible along ceiling (sorta like COTR), bc of having the sun in the eyes during games.

  8. Selkirk has new bleachers that slide out automatically (like the basketball hoops). This seems worth looking into.

  9. At the VERY least, there should definitely be a new gym to go along with a new school, dashing any ideas to leave the current gym standing. The areas of play (esp. basketball court) s/b regulation sized, not inches shorter as rumour has it now. As previously mentioned, there s/b enough additional floor space for enough bleachers, whether stationary or collapsible, to comfortably accommodate the entire school population. Open bleachers should also leave adequate room between courts and first rows, for safety reasons. Windows, high or otherwise, c/b located on the north wall of the gym to avoid the sun problem. Scoreboards are vital, a sound system practical, especially a good link to the system used for announcements (which are now difficult, if not impossible, to hear). Some sort of large display screen for large group access w/b a nice perk, esp. for things such as electronic field trips. Change rooms s/b adequately sized with good numbers of lockers, private showers remaining beneficial esp. for user groups. Equipment rooms s/b adequately sized to house ALL equipment and uniforms with superb order and safety in mind. Office areas are no doubt required as teaching staff don't have regular classrooms but have regular teaching responsibilities. Outside access to playing fields should obviously remain, doubling as emergency exits. If land space for a new gym is an issue, gym could possibly be located at a basement-type level beneath the building, which would still support high windows and outside access, unless regulation gym ceiling height is an issue. A below-ground gym could mean tennis courts located closer to the gym and/or 2 full-sized fields. Workout area s/b bright, open, and welcoming with a good view of the gym and vice-versa. It might be surprising how many students have never seen the inside of the weight/exercise room. Very good gym models are present in some nearby 'athletics supportive' Alberta schools which might warrant looking into as well.
